Planned Parenthood BUSTED For Illegal Racial Segregation

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission found Planned Parenthood of Illinois engaged in unlawful racial discrimination against white employees, ordering the organization to pay $500,000 in a settlement announced March 19, 2026.

Federal Investigation Uncovers Workplace Segregation

The EEOC investigation revealed Planned Parenthood of Illinois segregated employees by race and subjected white workers to harassment through mandatory diversity, equity, and inclusion training sessions. White employees were told they do not feel racism the same way non-white patients feel, and were repeatedly exposed to statements about white supremacy being exerted at every level of oppression. The organization required all staff to attend one to two-hour sessions of racially segregated affinity groups.

The federal agency determined Planned Parenthood also engaged in disparate treatment by granting time off to black employees while refusing the same benefit to white workers. Multiple employees filed charges that prompted the class investigation. The EEOC concluded these practices violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

EEOC Chair Issues Strong Warning

EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas emphasized that segregating employees by race violates the core promise of civil rights laws. Lucas stated Title VII guarantees equal treatment for every employee and prohibits race discrimination in American workplaces, with those protections equally applying to white workers. The chair made clear there is no DEI exception to Title VII requirements, warning that employers who deliberately separate workers or subject them to harassment because of their race violate federal law.

Manager Dismissed Following Investigation

The EEOC reported satisfaction that Planned Parenthood of Illinois dismissed a manager whose conduct was uncovered during the investigation. The Commission stated it will continue enforcing civil rights protections to ensure equal opportunity for all workers. This case marks a significant enforcement action targeting workplace practices implemented under diversity and inclusion programs. Planned Parenthood of Illinois did not provide comment in response to media inquiries about the settlement and findings.
