After four years of silence, President Trump has finally addressed the case of former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, who was convicted on election tampering charges despite support from his closest allies.
The Long Road to Trump’s Attention
Peters first gained national attention in the summer of 2021 when Colorado officials investigated tampering with county voting machines. The FBI launched an investigation into her role in releasing information from Mesa County’s Dominion voting system. While Trump allies like Steve Bannon and Mike Lindell defended Peters as she became a cause in MAGA circles, Trump himself remained notably silent throughout the legal proceedings.
Republican Matt Crane, executive director of the Colorado County Clerks Association, said Trump’s initial silence made sense given the unknowns in the case. A Mesa County grand jury indicted Peters, and a Republican district attorney prosecuted her. A jury found her guilty on seven counts, including four felonies, in the fall of 2024.
Supporters Push for Presidential Intervention
Colorado State Representative Scott Bottoms, now running for governor, organized a campaign with Peters’ attorneys and supporters to bring her case to Trump’s attention. Bottoms believes Trump stayed out initially because it remained a state issue, and media coverage appeared biased. Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein criticized Peters during sentencing, saying she made the community and law enforcement a joke while showing no responsibility.
What This Means for Election Integrity Debates
Peters found no evidence of election fraud despite her investigative efforts, according to Colorado election officials. Her conviction by a Republican prosecutor and jury of peers demonstrates how election security cases cross party lines. The case highlights ongoing tensions between election integrity advocates and established electoral processes, with Trump’s delayed response reflecting the complex political calculations surrounding such controversies.

Well he should at least do an investigation as to what exactly she violated soecically!
Wish Trump would have had the DOJ investigate Tina Peters case for malicious prosecution and expose the corruption loudly. Perhaps look into disbarring the prosecutor who is basically untouchable due to his immunity from lawsuits (being the prosecutor). No matter what, he knowingly convicted an innocent person, he knew exactly what he was doing. Maybe disbar the prosecutor and see if there’s enough grounds to impeach the judge. It is Colorado after all, so not holding my breath… Trump issuing a pardon for something he has no authority to do makes Trump look like the weak one, when in fact it’s the woke Colorado government, judiciary and prosecutor.
