DOJ CHARGES Bangladeshi Man In Exploitation Scheme

Federal authorities secured the extradition of a Bangladeshi national accused of orchestrating one of the most extensive online child exploitation schemes in American history, targeting hundreds of minors across the United States and abroad through sophisticated social media manipulation.

Prolific International Predator Brought to Justice

Zobaidul Amin arrived in Alaska this week after Malaysian authorities transferred him to face 13 federal charges, including conspiracy to produce child pornography, child exploitation enterprise, cyberstalking, aggravated identity theft, and wire fraud. Prosecutors allege Amin posed as a teenager on Instagram and Snapchat, coercing victims as young as 11 into producing sexually explicit content. The alleged predator then threatened to share these images with friends, family, and classmates unless the victims complied with daily demands for additional material.

Court documents reveal Amin used more than 80 Snapchat accounts and 40 Instagram accounts to evade platform bans, demonstrating a calculated effort to continue his alleged exploitation. Investigators say he worked with co-conspirators to organize victim images in Dropbox folders, sharing links to facilitate further extortion. Many victims were located in Alaska, though the operation reached across multiple states and international borders.

FBI Director Declares Mission Restored

FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized the bureau’s renewed focus on core law enforcement priorities. “This FBI is back to doing what it does best, locking up predators, dismantling violent gangs and holding criminals accountable no matter who they are,” Patel stated. The director highlighted that within 24 hours, agents captured this fugitive, dismantled the 18th Street Gang in Los Angeles, and arrested a contractor accused of stealing over 46 million dollars from the United States Marshals Service.

International Cooperation Brings Suspect to Court

Amin was attending medical school in Malaysia when Malaysian authorities charged him in September 2022 with 13 counts related to child pornography possession and production. The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs coordinated with Malaysian partners to secure his transfer on March 4. He appeared in federal court in Anchorage on Thursday, pleading not guilty during his initial appearance. United States Magistrate Judge Kyle Reardon ordered Amin held without bail as prosecutors prepare their case. United States Attorney for the District of Alaska Michael Heyman called the case “one of the most prolific cases of alleged online child exploitation the United States has ever seen,” praising the international cooperation that made justice possible for victims.
