Federal authorities are now offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old man accused of shooting at vehicles along Kansas City’s Interstate 70 corridor, leaving one person dead and four others wounded before mysteriously disappearing from a burning house during a police standoff.

String of Highway Shootings Terrorizes Drivers

Oscar Sanchez-Munoz faces accusations in six separate shooting incidents spanning two weeks across the Kansas City metropolitan area. On June 11, he allegedly opened fire on a vehicle carrying an adult and child in Wyandotte County, Kansas. Then on Tuesday evening, five more shootings unfolded in rapid succession along Interstate 70, moving from west to east through Kansas City, Missouri. One victim died from their injuries.

The four surviving victims told police they were simply driving when gunfire suddenly struck their vehicles. Among them was an Uber driver transporting passengers to a World Cup soccer match in Kansas City. A teenager remains hospitalized in stable condition, while one adult victim suffered life-threatening injuries. Officers who responded to that shooting drove the stranded World Cup fans to the game themselves, according to Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves.

Suspect Disappears From Burning House

Tuesday night saw Sanchez-Munoz barricade himself inside a residence in Independence, Missouri, just east of Kansas City, triggering a tense standoff with law enforcement. Around 12:45 a.m., flames engulfed the house. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and searched the structure, but Sanchez-Munoz had vanished. Authorities have not explained how he escaped or where he went.

The FBI now considers Sanchez-Munoz armed and extremely dangerous. Federal officials urge anyone who spots him to immediately call 911 rather than approach. The $25,000 reward applies to information resulting in both his arrest and conviction on the charges.

Random Violence Strikes Ordinary Citizens

The attacks targeted everyday Americans going about their normal activities—commuting to work, driving children, attending sporting events. The seemingly random nature of the shootings has heightened public concern across the Kansas City region.
