TODAY: Report CRUSHES Forecast — Trump Gets Good News

The United States economy delivered a stunning jobs report for October, adding 165,000 positions and crushing Wall Street expectations by nearly triple the forecast, while unemployment dropped to 4.1 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

Economic Strength Defies Predictions

Economists had predicted just 59,000 new jobs for October, making the actual figure a remarkable surprise that signals continued economic resilience. The unemployment rate ticked down from 4.2 percent to 4.1 percent, contradicting fears of an economic slowdown. Worker wages also climbed, with average hourly earnings rising 0.4 percent for the month and 3.1 percent annually, exceeding forecasts of 0.3 percent monthly and 2.9 percent yearly growth.

Previous months also saw significant upward revisions. August’s job gains increased by 53,000 to reach 186,000 total positions, while September’s count rose by 31,000 to 60,000 jobs. These revisions paint a picture of sustained employment growth across multiple months, reinforcing confidence in labor market fundamentals despite earlier concerns about economic headwinds.

Broad-Based Job Creation

Professional and business services led all sectors with 70,000 new positions, followed by healthcare adding 42,000 jobs. This diverse growth pattern marks a shift from recent trends where healthcare dominated job creation almost exclusively. Transportation and warehousing contributed 25,000 positions, while manufacturing added 19,000 jobs, demonstrating strength across traditional industrial sectors that support middle-class American families.

The civilian labor force expanded by 421,000 workers, though a broader unemployment measure including discouraged workers and part-time employees seeking full-time work rose to 7.9 percent, up 0.3 percentage points. The average workweek held steady at 34.4 hours, indicating employers maintained consistent scheduling rather than cutting hours.

What This Means

Seema Shah, chief global strategist at Principal Asset Management, called the report a strong rebuttal to recession fears. The data suggests the economy continues absorbing workers comfortably rather than buckling under financial pressures. For American workers and families, the combination of job growth, falling unemployment, and rising wages represents positive economic momentum heading into the final months of 2026, supporting household budgets and economic stability.
