A federal jury in Fort Worth delivered a sweeping victory for law enforcement Friday, convicting nine individuals linked to what prosecutors called an orchestrated attack on a North Texas immigration detention facility that left one officer shot and federal property damaged.

Jury Delivers Guilty Verdicts After 12-Day Trial

Benjamin Song faced the most serious consequences, convicted of attempted murder for shooting Alvarado Police Lt. Thomas Gross during the July 4, 2025, incident at the Prairieland ICE Detention Center. Eight of the nine defendants were found guilty of providing material support to terrorists, rioting, conspiring to use explosives, and using explosives during a riot. The verdicts came after jurors reviewed over 210 exhibits and heard from more than 45 witnesses during the trial that began February 23.

Daniel Estrada, the only defendant not present during the attack, was convicted of concealing records and conspiracy to conceal documents. Maricela Rueda also faced conviction for conspiracy to conceal documents. Prosecutors presented evidence showing the attack involved fireworks, property damage, and gunfire directed at law enforcement officers. Defense attorneys maintained their clients never intended violence and disputed characterizations of an ambush.

Patel Issues Strong Warning to Federal Officer Attackers

FBI Director Kash Patel delivered a forceful message following the convictions. The verdicts demonstrate the FBI’s commitment to identifying and dismantling networks that target federal law enforcement, Patel told Fox News Digital. He thanked the Dallas field office for their work and warned that anyone attacking federal officers will face the full resources of the FBI in pursuit of justice.

What This Means for Federal Law Enforcement

Attorney General Pamela Bondi characterized the organization as a domestic terrorist group that flourished under previous administrations. The Trump administration plans systematic action to dismantle such networks and halt violence on American streets, according to her statement. ICE Director Todd Lyons emphasized that the violent attack represented an unacceptable form of protest, but the verdicts demonstrate that choosing violence over lawful expression brings the full force of the American justice system. The convictions mark a significant moment in federal efforts to protect officers and facilities from coordinated attacks.
