Newly released Department of Justice documents reveal that a prison guard assigned to monitor Jeffrey Epstein made a mysterious $5,000 cash deposit just days before his death and conducted Google searches about him minutes before his body was discovered in his Manhattan jail cell.
Guard’s Activities Under Scrutiny
Tova Noel, one of two Metropolitan Correctional Center workers charged with monitoring Epstein before his trial on federal sex trafficking charges, conducted suspicious activities during her final shift. The 37-year-old guard shopped for furniture online and slept instead of performing mandatory 30-minute checks on the high-profile inmate. Documents show Noel denied conducting Google searches about Epstein in her 2021 sworn statement to the DOJ, contradicting evidence found in the newly released files. An internal FBI briefing identified Noel as the likely source of a mysterious orange shape captured on blurry surveillance footage near Epstein’s cell around 10:40 p.m. that night.
Financial Transactions Raise Questions
The $5,000 cash deposit occurred 10 days before Epstein’s death, which authorities ruled a suicide. Miami Herald reporter Julie Brown, who originally broke the Epstein story leading to his 2008 guilty plea, noted additional irregularities on social media. Brown pointed to numerous monthly Quick Zelle cash payments appearing in Noel’s bank account during the timeframe surrounding Epstein’s death. Both Noel and fellow guard Michael Thomas were terminated after accusations of falsifying records showing they completed required checks throughout the night. Criminal charges against both guards were subsequently dropped.
Document Release Timing and Content
The DOJ released the additional files Thursday night as part of ongoing transparency efforts regarding the Epstein case. The documents included disturbing allegations involving public figures, though President Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein. The case continues to generate significant public interest due to unanswered questions about security failures at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. The release underscores persistent concerns about how one of the most high-profile inmates in federal custody died while under government supervision, despite protocols designed to prevent such outcomes.
