FBI POUNCES After Insider Leak Hits Iran Mission

The FBI arrested a former U.S. Special Operations Command employee on Wednesday for allegedly leaking classified information about an American fighter jet shot down over Iran, a disclosure President Trump said endangered both the missing pilot and rescue teams attempting to save him.

National Security Breach Puts Lives at Risk

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed agents took into custody a former SOCOM employee who transmitted classified details to a media outlet about the F-15E fighter jet downed over Iranian territory last week. The leak came while the administration and Pentagon refused to confirm the crash for more than two days, citing ongoing rescue operations. President Trump called the leaker a “sick person” during a Monday White House press conference, saying the unauthorized disclosure alerted Iran to the presence of a downed pilot fighting for survival on their soil.

Trump explained the leak made rescue operations significantly more dangerous by broadcasting American intentions across Iran. According to the president, Iranian authorities responded by offering substantial financial rewards to citizens who could capture the missing airman. “So in addition to a hostile, very talented, very good, very evil military, we had millions of people trying to get an award,” Trump stated. The administration warned it would pressure the unnamed media company to reveal their source, threatening jail time and invoking national security concerns.

Dramatic Rescue Success Despite Compromised Mission

Military forces successfully rescued the back-seat weapons systems officer, a colonel, on Sunday after a complex operation involving hundreds of personnel and multiple aircraft. Some rescue planes took enemy fire during the mission. The front-seat pilot was recovered shortly after the aircraft went down over southwestern Iran. The Pentagon’s silence during the 48 hours reflected concerns about operational security while American lives remained at stake in hostile territory.

Warning to Future Leakers

Director Patel thanked the Charlotte, North Carolina, field office for assisting the investigation, though SOCOM headquarters operates from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. In a statement posted on social media, Patel delivered a stern message to anyone considering similar breaches. “Let this serve as a message to any would-be leakers: we’re working these cases, and we’re making arrests. This FBI will not tolerate those who seek to betray our country and put Americans in harm’s way,” he wrote. The arrest demonstrates the administration’s commitment to prosecuting unauthorized disclosures of classified military operations, particularly when American lives hang in the balance.
