A former Louisiana mayor faces up to 10 years in prison after a jury convicted her of having sex with a 16-year-old boy at an alcohol-fueled pool party she hosted at her home while still serving in office.
Teenagers Testify About Booze-Filled Party
The victim, now older, testified that he was drunk when the incident occurred with the then-sitting mayor. Prosecutors presented text messages showing the ex-mayor discussing what types of alcohol teenagers wanted for the party. Her own son warned her about the victim’s age, texting “He is seventeen” before the incident. The victim was actually 16 years old at the time. The mayor’s daughter took the witness stand and told jurors she saw her mother and the victim “on top of each other” during the party that night.
Emergency Contraceptive and Damning Evidence
After the incident, the victim’s mother contacted the mayor to confirm she was not pregnant. Text messages revealed the mayor assured her she was on birth control, then screenshotted the conversation and sent it to a separate group chat suggesting she would take Plan B. A DoorDash driver testified he delivered emergency contraception to “Misty C” at the home and later suspected the order connected to rumors he heard. Prosecutors displayed photos from the party showing the mayor wearing a bikini while posing with the victim, partially obscured by furniture.
Family Members Caught in Cover-Up Attempt
The mayor’s ex-husband testified that she admitted to having sex with the teenage boy and that their children caught them in the act. Text messages between the couple showed discussions about denying the incident. “I would deny what happened if you’re approached by anyone at the meeting,” the ex-husband texted on the day of a city council meeting. Another message showed the mayor pleading “I need you to deny it, please.” The defense attorney argued police failed to properly investigate DNA evidence and surveillance footage, claiming investigators tried to “railroad” his client.
Fall From Power and Legal Consequences
The former mayor resigned from her position just days before her arrest in 2024. She was released on a $100,000 surety bond following the guilty verdict. The carnal knowledge conviction carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Assistant District Attorney Charles Robinson pointed to evidence exhibits during closing arguments, referencing “a lewd and lascivious photo is worth a thousand words.” The case exposed how an elected official violated her position of trust by providing alcohol to minors and engaging in criminal sexual conduct with a child.
