House Democrats LUNGE To IMPEACH Defense Secretary

House Democrats filed articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on April 15, accusing him of six impeachable offenses, including unauthorized military action against Iran and targeting civilians in strikes that killed over 175 people.

The Charges Against Pentagon Leadership

Representative Yassamin Ansari of Arizona led the impeachment effort, alleging Hegseth committed high crimes and misdemeanors through initiating unauthorized war in Iran, violating laws protecting civilians, mishandling classified information, obstructing congressional oversight, abusing power, and bringing disrepute to the military. The Arizona Democrat stated Hegseth broke his constitutional oath and endangered American troops through unauthorized disclosure of sensitive military information while conducting unlawful operations.

Thirteen House Democrats joined as cosponsors, though the measure lacks sufficient votes to pass even with full Democratic support in the Republican-controlled chamber. The articles specifically cite a February 28 strike on a school in southern Iran that killed at least 175 people, predominantly children, occurring the same day the United States and Israel launched military operations. The Pentagon opened an investigation into the school strike but has not admitted responsibility despite media investigations showing evidence of American military culpability.

Failed Congressional Oversight Attempts

The impeachment filing follows unsuccessful attempts by Democrats to constrain the Trump administration’s military actions through war powers resolutions. The House rejected a resolution on April 16 aimed at limiting the Iran war, which began without congressional authorization. One day earlier, the Senate defeated a similar measure along party lines with a 47-52 vote. Separate war powers resolutions seeking to restrain military intervention in Venezuela, which culminated in the January capture of former president Nicolas Maduro, also failed in both chambers.

Pentagon Response and Caribbean Operations

Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson dismissed the impeachment effort as Democrats seeking headlines while the Department of War achieved President Donald Trump’s objectives in Iran. Wilson characterized the action as a charade designed to distract from departmental successes. The impeachment articles also reference ongoing strikes on Caribbean boats that the administration claims, without evidence, carry drugs, operations that have killed at least 177 people and drawn criticism from legal experts who view them as illegal military actions.
