Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested multiple convicted murderers, child predators, and violent criminals during a nationwide operation over the July Fourth weekend as Americans celebrated the nation’s 250th birthday.
Operation Targets Violent Offenders
The Department of Homeland Security announced Monday that ICE agents arrested numerous dangerous criminals over the holiday weekend, including individuals convicted of murder, sexual abuse of children under 12, drug trafficking, and kidnapping. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis emphasized that officers worked through the holiday to remove public safety threats from American communities. The operation represents part of the Trump administration’s expanded enforcement capabilities following significant personnel increases.

Among those arrested, authorities detained Radimir Thompson-Nagle from Panama, convicted of murder and assault in Brooklyn. Marcos Rubio-Hernandez from Mexico faced previous convictions for second-degree murder and kidnapping in North Carolina. Roberto Gutierrez-Diaz carried multiple convictions including sodomy and sexual abuse of victims under 12 years old in Kentucky. Francisco Olmedo-Silva had convictions across three states for drug trafficking and escape from custody.
Workforce Expansion Enables Operations
Bis credited President Trump’s legislative agenda for enabling ICE to hire 12,000 new officers and agents in less than one year, more than doubling the agency’s workforce. The expanded capacity allows ICE to conduct larger-scale enforcement operations targeting criminal illegal immigrants. The hiring surge came through funding approved in legislation Bis described as enabling officers to deliver on making communities safer across America.
Sanctuary Policy Clash Intensifies
The arrests occurred amid escalating tensions between federal immigration authorities and sanctuary jurisdictions. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin declared sanctuary city politicians a national security threat, noting seven of the ten safest American cities cooperate with ICE. His comments followed reports that Fairfax County, Virginia transferred only 11 illegal immigrants to ICE while refusing 615 others over 16 months since designating itself a sanctuary jurisdiction in 2021.
The conflict gained urgency during House GOP testimony where Cheryl Minter detailed how her daughter’s murder by an alleged illegal alien with over 30 prior arrests demonstrated consequences of lenient policies. Minter criticized Virginia’s sanctuary framework and demanded better cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration enforcement to prevent similar tragedies.
