Court OBLITERATES Trump Move To Cut NPR PBS

A federal judge permanently blocked President Trump’s executive order to end taxpayer funding for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service, ruling the directive violated First Amendment protections against viewpoint discrimination.

Obama Appointee Halts Defunding Order

U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss, appointed by President Obama, issued a permanent injunction Tuesday against Trump’s directive to cease federal funding for NPR and PBS. The judge declared the order unlawful and unenforceable, writing that the evidence showed clear government targeting of viewpoints the President opposes. Moss argued the First Amendment does not tolerate such viewpoint discrimination and retaliation, establishing constitutional grounds for his ruling.

The White House had announced the funding cut by arguing that government subsidies for news media are outdated and corrosive to journalistic independence. The administration stated that unlike 1967 when the Corporation for Public Broadcasting was established, today’s media landscape offers abundant and diverse news options. Officials emphasized that no media outlet holds a constitutional right to taxpayer subsidies, and Americans deserve fair, accurate, unbiased coverage if their tax dollars fund public broadcasting.

Constitutional Battle Over Media Funding

President Trump’s executive order directed the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Board of Directors and all executive agencies to cease federal funding for both entities. The directive stated that CPB fails to ensure NPR and PBS provide fair and unbiased coverage to taxpaying citizens. The White House emphasized the issue centers on balanced reporting rather than specific viewpoints promoted by either organization. Both NPR and PBS receive taxpayer funds through CPB appropriations.

Impact and Next Steps

The operational impact of Judge Moss’s decision remains unclear as the administration will likely appeal the ruling. Legal experts note that significant damage to the public broadcasting system may already have occurred through both presidential action and Congressional measures. The case represents a fundamental clash between executive authority over federal spending and First Amendment protections for media independence. The Trump administration maintains that eliminating subsidies for biased media represents fiscal responsibility rather than viewpoint censorship, while the court has determined such actions constitute unconstitutional retaliation against protected speech.

  1. So if a right leaning news agency was being funded by tax payer money , would that also be okay? Would lefties be ok with that? Interested to see the answers.

  2. I have no problem with NPR and PBS spouting non-stop 24/7 liberal leftist propaganda. They have every right to do that. The Constitution says they can! It’s just that the tax payers do not have to pay for it!

  3. So the government is required to fund these extremely biased organizations??? What about ABC NBC FOX ARE GOING TO FUND THEM ALSO?

  4. Yet another Obama appointed judge stands in the way of justice. When these organization are being funded with tax payer dollars, they don’t have the right to get into politics. Using my tax dollars to spread propaganda isn’t a first amendment right. It’s slander, which is illegal of coarse with the exception of the Democrats who do want they please with these same judges backing them.
Anyone noticed that all the judges opposing Trumps actions are appointed by Obama??? More law fair, corruption.
