A Long Island security professional faces 47 felony charges after police discovered 22 firearms behind a concealed wall in his basement, raising questions about where lawful collecting ends and criminal possession begins.
The Discovery Behind the Hidden Wall
Suffolk County police arrested Todd Pinnell, 54, on Friday evening after finding an extensive firearms collection hidden behind a false wall in a basement closet at his Lindenhurst home. The cache included 14 handguns and eight rifles, along with ammunition magazines. Four of the recovered weapons were ghost guns, firearms lacking serial numbers that criminals often favor for their untraceable nature. Officers made the discovery during a routine parole sweep connected to Pinnell’s 2023 misdemeanor weapons conviction.
Judge Alonzo Jacobs expressed shock at Saturday’s bail hearing, stating the number of weapons found could be considered alarming to the conscience. The judge set bail at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond, more than double what prosecutors requested. Pinnell now faces 47 felony weapons charges stemming from the seizure.
Defense Claims Collector Status
Defense attorney Anthony Grandinette argued his client represents nothing more than an enthusiastic collector with deep family ties to firearms. Grandinette told the court that Pinnell has worked steadily in security and fire management for a decade and grew up handling firearms legally alongside his grandfather, father, and brother. The attorney emphasized that none of the recovered weapons were loaded, suggesting no intent to use them unlawfully. Grandinette maintained the hidden storage location posed no public safety threat.
Constitutional Questions Surface
The case highlights ongoing tensions between Second Amendment rights and state weapons regulations. Prior to his 2023 arrest, Pinnell had no criminal record despite decades of firearm ownership and regular range shooting. The presence of ghost guns complicates his defense, as these unregistered weapons raise red flags for law enforcement regardless of owner intent. The case proceeds as courts nationwide continue grappling with defining reasonable limits on constitutional gun ownership rights while addressing public safety concerns about untraceable weapons and concealed arsenals.

New York Post: Long Island man arrested after 22 guns found behind ‘false wall’ in basement closet

So a man enjoys in collecting firearms. It’s not a problem only to anti second amendment democrats especially in New York. Actually democrats are a public safety threat but trying to legislate a 10 day wait even after they have passed the federal background check. The legislatures should look at Bruin decision by the supreme court. But they will pass laws that violate our constitutional rights. In historical terms so call ghost gun could be a protected arm . Now New York wants to ban a firearm Glock that is considered common use thus goes against Heller Supreme Court ruling . Now they want to make all gun owner to be forced to buy million dollars worth of insurance, but Como signed a law about insurance and they hammered the NRA about it calling it murder insurance. So will they reverse the law to make citizens pay to exercise their right to bear arms . The democrats are trying to make it almost impossible for us to exercise our second amendment right to bear arms. Enough is enough .
In places like NY and many others, only criminals are permitted to have firearms. Then when said criminal gets caught using a firearm to commit a crime, they get released same day with no bail required. On the other hand, the law abiding citizen collector gets a high bail set and his only crime was possession of the weapons.
