Representative Ilhan Omar’s name appears at least six times in sealed court documents from the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud case, raising questions about the Minnesota Democrat’s potential role in the massive federal funds scheme that operated in her district.
Connections Emerge From Sealed Court Records
The documents surfaced from the 2025 federal trial of Aimee Bock, founder of the Feeding Our Future nonprofit. Bock was convicted of wire fraud, conspiracy, and bribery for orchestrating a scheme that falsely claimed to serve millions of meals to children while diverting federal funds through fake food sites and shell companies. Court exhibits show Omar’s name in a February 5, 2021 email chain with Bock carrying the subject line “help with USDA food program.” Days later, Bock exchanged messages with a subject line reading “Ilhan’s Office” with Abdikerm Eidleh, a Feeding Our Future employee who fled the country after his 2022 indictment.
Federal prosecutors allege Bock has been leaking documents from custody through her college-age son ahead of her May 21 sentencing hearing, attempting to shift blame to elected officials. The sealed exhibits also include text message exchanges between Bock and Omar discovered during a raid of Bock’s Minnesota residence. While the exhibit list remains public, the court has sealed the actual contents, leaving the nature of these communications unknown.
Lawmakers Demand Answers As Omar Goes Silent
Minnesota State Assemblywoman Kristin Robbins, chair of the Minnesota Fraud Committee investigating the case, sent Omar a formal letter demanding she turn over correspondence after the congresswoman failed to appear at a scheduled hearing. “She is refusing to show up and answer questions in person, she’s refusing to respond to our requests for data, and she’s even refusing to respond at all,” Robbins told reporters. “She’s an elected public official, she should at least want to share with the public how her office was involved in this.” Omar’s office has not responded to requests for comment, and the May 5 deadline for document production has passed.
Legislation Under Scrutiny
Critics have pointed to Omar’s MEALS Act, which loosened oversight requirements for federally funded food programs during the pandemic. The legislation removed standard accountability measures that typically prevent fraudulent claims and inflated reimbursements. Investigators believe these reduced safeguards created opportunities for Feeding Our Future to exploit the system. Robbins, currently running for governor as the Republican candidate to succeed Tim Walz, accused Omar of showing “incredible arrogance and disdain for the people of Minnesota” through her silence. The congresswoman faces mounting pressure to explain her office’s communications with convicted fraudsters and whether her legislation inadvertently enabled the quarter-billion-dollar scheme.
