Pregnant Wife Murder Case ROCKED by New Evidence

A new documentary reveals never-before-seen evidence that challenges Scott Peterson’s 2004 murder conviction, including footage showing his fishing boat capsizing when attempting to dispose of a weighted dummy replicating his wife’s body—evidence the jury never saw during his trial for killing pregnant wife Laci and their unborn son Conner on Christmas Eve 2002.

Critical Evidence Jury Never Witnessed

The A&E documentary “Scott Peterson: The New Evidence” presents defense footage demonstrating Peterson’s small fishing boat would capsize when attempting to throw a weighted dummy overboard at the Berkeley Marina. The two-part series, airing July 16 and 17, features retired Los Angeles Detective Ninette Toosbuy and defense lawyer Chris Pixley retracing Peterson’s alleged route. They conclude disposing of a body in broad daylight without witnesses or significant DNA evidence would have been nearly impossible.

Prosecutors built their case partly on claims Peterson secretly purchased the fishing boat to carry out the murder. The documentary reveals handwritten notes allegedly written by Laci suggesting she knew about the boat purchase, directly contradicting the prosecution’s narrative. Only two strands of Laci’s hair were found wrapped around rusty pliers under a boat seat, with no blood or tissue recovered.

Los Angeles Innocence Project Takes Case

In 2024, the Los Angeles Innocence Project assumed representation of Peterson, now 53 and serving life in California prison. Court filings argue new evidence supports Peterson’s innocence claims and raises questions about who actually abducted and killed Laci and Conner. Mark Geragos, Peterson’s trial attorney who has represented Sean Combs, Michael Jackson, and the Menendez brothers, told reporters he loses sleep over this case because he believes his client is innocent.

New expert analysis featured in the documentary challenges the tidal and wind data presented at trial. These experts claim Laci’s body could not have washed ashore at the location where investigators found it if Peterson had dumped it where he was fishing. Advances in fetal biometric science also suggest Laci and Conner may have died later than December 24, 2002, according to experts and the Innocence Project.

National Sensation Revisited

The Peterson case captivated the nation in 2004 when prosecutors portrayed the couple as picture-perfect while Peterson carried on an affair with massage therapist Amber Frey. Prosecutors argued Peterson murdered his pregnant wife to pursue a bachelor lifestyle. Despite the seemingly overwhelming evidence that convinced a jury to convict him, Peterson has repeatedly failed to overturn his conviction through appeals courts. The documentary was filmed to stress-test the new evidence supporting Peterson’s innocence claims, more than two decades after the Christmas Eve murders shocked California.
