Representative Ilhan Omar’s Minneapolis congressional office operates inside a community center that received campaign donations from convicted fraud operatives—money the congresswoman redirected there only after the donors were publicly named as suspects in America’s largest pandemic-era fraud scheme.

Convicted Fraudsters Donated During Active Scheme

Ahmed Abdullahi Ghedi and Abdihakim Ali Ahmed each donated $2,700 to Omar’s reelection campaign in early 2021 while actively stealing $7.2 million in federal child nutrition funds. The pair operated a fake meal-delivery site from a deli under the Feeding Our Future fraud network, submitting bogus claims for meals never served to underprivileged children. Both later pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges.

Omar donated the $5,400 total in 2022 to three Minneapolis food pantries, including Sabathani Community Center, which now houses her district office. The donations came only after Ghedi and Ahmed were identified as suspects. Minnesota state Representative Kristin Robbins questioned the timing, noting Omar accepted their money while they were actively involved in the scheme.

Omar’s Bill Enabled The Fraud Network

Omar introduced the Maintaining Essential Access to Lunch for Students Act, which dramatically relaxed eligibility requirements for food distributors during COVID-19 shutdowns. The legislation granted waivers allowing non-school caterers to claim federal reimbursements, a change believed to have incentivized the Feeding Our Future network to enroll phantom entities as distribution sites. Many suspects implicated in the scheme were constituents from Omar’s congressional district.

Court documents reveal Omar’s office communicated with Aimee Bock, the fraud ring’s convicted leader, during 2021 while the scheme actively defrauded taxpayers. The records show multiple texts and emails, including requests for help with the USDA food program. Omar has refused to release records of these communications despite requests from state investigators.

Direct Promotion To Community Members

Omar personally promoted her legislation to community members in 2020, filming a promotional video at Safari Restaurant. The establishment’s owner, Salim Said, was later identified as a high-ranking Feeding Our Future associate and faced trial alongside Bock. Robbins chairs the Minnesota House fraud prevention and oversight committee investigating Omar’s involvement in the scandal. The Feeding Our Future case stands as the largest pandemic relief fraud prosecution in United States history, with dozens of purported food distributors revealed as shell companies that billed federal programs for nonexistent services to children.
