Jet PLUNGES Into Florida — No Survivors

A business jet carrying nine people plummeted from the sky near Palm Beach County homes Sunday afternoon, killing everyone on board after the pilot declared an emergency overspeed condition. Air traffic control recordings captured the pilot’s final desperate moments, screaming they were descending 20,000 feet per minute before yelling, “We’re gonna crash… We’re out of time.”

Pilot’s Final Emergency Declaration

The Learjet 60 departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas bound for the Bahamas before crashing just before 1 p.m. Sunday. LiveATC.net audio revealed the pilot initially reported descending 10,000 feet per minute, a rate that doubled to 20,000 feet per minute as the aircraft entered an uncontrollable overspeed condition. Dashboard cameras from nearby vehicles captured the terrifying moment the jet nose-dived like a missile into the Cresthaven area near a mobile home park.

Governor Ron DeSantis described the scene as a massive explosion with debris scattered everywhere. “It was like a missile coming down and a massive explosion, debris going everywhere. And to have those people on board, it’s really a tragic way to see people pass away,” DeSantis told reporters at a news conference. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed all nine fatalities on social media, requesting prayers for the victims’ families and loved ones.

Mass Evacuation Near Mobile Home Park

Approximately 600 people were evacuated from the crash site as authorities secured the area. The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office closed all northbound and southbound lanes of Military Trail near Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Remarkably, no one on the ground suffered injuries despite the aircraft plunging into a densely populated area. The proximity to residential neighborhoods made the lack of ground casualties particularly fortunate given the catastrophic nature of the crash.

Federal Investigation Launched

The National Transportation Safety Board dispatched a go-team to investigate the crash, with investigators expected to arrive Sunday evening and Monday morning. Officials have not yet disclosed what caused the catastrophic overspeed condition that doomed the aircraft. Jim Reynolds, a spokesperson for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, confirmed the jet was a private aircraft but could not immediately provide details about the passengers’ identities. The Federal Aviation Administration is working alongside the NTSB to determine why the Learjet 60 experienced such a rapid, uncontrolled descent.

What This Means

This tragedy marks one of the deadliest private aviation accidents in recent Florida history. The pilot’s recorded emergency declaration provides critical evidence for investigators examining whether mechanical failure, weather conditions, or other factors caused the overspeed condition. Private aviation safety will face renewed scrutiny as federal authorities work to prevent similar catastrophes. The investigation will focus on the aircraft’s maintenance history, flight data recorders, and wreckage analysis to provide answers to grieving families.
